LRLX Internship Open Call
SF Bay Area, Season 6: 2019-2020
Apply Now! The Living Room Light Exchange is seeking an intern for its 2019-2020 season of programming. Applications are due August 30, 2019 at 5pm.
The Living Room Light Exchange (LRLX) launched its internship program in 2016 as a core part of the organization’s structure. The internship program provides training within a small visual arts organization, allowing participants to assume professional-level responsibilities, receive training and guidance from LRLX curators and understand how a small fiscally-sponsored non-profit arts organization functions. It also provides participants with experience and access to the new media art community in the Bay Area, and training in ways to delve more deeply into the intersection of art and technology and the ways artistic practice can challenge a changing technological world.
Internship duration: Sep 2019-April 2020
Internship requirements and responsibilities:
6-8 hours per month
Attend monthly LRLX salons in rotating living rooms across the San Francisco Bay Area (largely in SF and Oakland). Dates for the 2019-2020 season are: Sep 17, Oct 15, Nov 19, Jan 21, Feb 18, Mar 17, April 21
Process publication sales at LRLX events
Update website monthly for each event (no coding required!) and special announcements
Update monthly events on our ticketing platform, WithFriends
Design and publish event updates on social media platforms, Instagram and Twitter
Support development of new LRLX Membership Program
Solicitation of in-kind donations from local organizations, with guidance
Communication with local bookstores and museum shop on the stocking of LRLX publications
Assist with publication planning by brainstorming thematic content and assisting in timelines creations
Optional: Design-oriented interns will have special opportunities to create content for our website and publications
Internship compensation:
A small honorarium of $100
Copies of all four of the LRLX publications, valued at $77
When possible, we partner with schools or universities to provide course credit
About the Living Room Light Exchange: The Living Room Light Exchange is a facilitated set of seven monthly salons dedicated to new media art forms and dialogues. Each event meets the third Tuesday of the month in rotating living rooms around the Bay Area, with discussions featuring three curated artists, scholars, or cultural producers working at the intersection of art and technology. Engaged discussions with attendees follow. LRLX is a place-based artist-run organization that relies on critical and playful methods to engage the public in current topics surrounding new media culture. LRLX is fiscally sponsored by Gray Area Foundation for the Arts. Past funding has been granted by Southern Exposure’s Alternative Exposure program, The Clorox Company Foundation, The Center for Cultural Innovation, and the Zellerbach Family Foundation.
